Van Gogh's "The Painter on the road to Tarascon" - Additional Exhibit
The Otsuka Museum of Art has reproduced on a ceramic panel a full-size version of Van Gogh's only full-body self-portrait, "The Artist on the Road to Tarascon," which was lost during the Second World War and was therefore opened to the public as a permanent exhibit from November 3, 2018.
Kaiser Friedrich Museum of city Magdeburg of former East Germany (existing The Cultural Historic Museum Magdeburg ) and in 1943, towards the end of World War II, they were taken to a huge salt mine about 460 meters underground to escape air raids. The area was later liberated by the US military and some of the works were discovered, but this work was never found and disappeared without a trace. As it was part of East Germany until the reunification of East and West Germany in 1990, it was not even permitted to search for it, and now it is considered impossible to explore further underground as it is dangerous to even enter the salt mine.
Of the lost masterpieces that Otsuka Museum of Art has recreated, from the 2014 recreation of Van Gogh's mythical "Sunflower" , this is the 2nd work. Since masterpieces on ceramic panels can be preserved semi-permanently without the colors fading, we hope to not only provide an experience of viewing them in full size, but also contribute greatly to the way cultural properties are recorded and preserved.

Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890)
▲Van Gogh's "7 Sunflowers"
He was born in 1853 as the son of a pastor in the village of Zundert in the south of the Netherlands. He aspired to become a priest but failed, so at the age of 27 he decided to become a painter. He went to Paris relying on his brother Theo, an art dealer, and eventually moved to Arles in the south of France. He began living with his best friend Gauguin, but the relationship fell apart after 2 months. He then became mentally ill and took his own life in Auvers-sur-Oise, dying at the age of 37. Although he only lived as a painter for 10 short years, his works are beloved by many. In March 2018, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its opening, the Otsuka Museum of Art will be exhibiting a collection of paintings by Van Gogh that are scattered around the world: the 7 "Sunflower" paintings of flower vases, reproduced in full size , and displayed together.
