Seurat "A Sunday on the Island of La Grande Jatte"
The Île de la Grande Jatte is the name of an island in the lower reaches of the Seine River on the outskirts of Paris, France. It was a popular weekend getaway for Parisians, and was always crowded with people. In the 19th century, when new forms of expression were sought, Seurat established the pointillism technique. When you look at a group of small dots from a distance, the different colored dots next to each other blend together in your eyes, creating vivid colors.

Georges Seurat (1859-1891)
Born in Paris, France. Neo-Impressionist painter who pioneered the pointillism technique. "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" is not only Seurat's masterpiece, but is also considered one of the most important works in France in the second half of the 19th century.
